Corporate Tax Filing in Calgary

Your corporate return should reflect more than the figures in last year’s file. We review your financial records and tax position, prepare the required T2 return and schedules, and discuss items that need attention before filing.

We work with Calgary businesses ranging from owner-operated corporations to established companies with more complex reporting needs. If you also need a compilation engagement, GST/HST filing, or ongoing tax planning, we can discuss that work as part of your engagement.

Corporate Tax Returns and Year-End Services

T2 Corporate Tax Returns

We prepare and file corporate income tax returns and the applicable schedules using your year-end financial information. As part of the work, we review relevant deductions, capital asset purchases, and other items that may affect your corporation’s tax position.

Year-End Financial Statements

Accurate year-end records are the starting point for a reliable return. We review the financial information needed for filing and can prepare compilation engagement financial statements when they are appropriate for your business and included in the scope of work.

GST/HST and Related Filings

Corporate tax is only one part of your reporting obligations. We can assist with GST/HST returns and related accounting work where needed, so the figures used across your filings are consistent with your records.

OUR PROCESS

A Straightforward Way to Partner With Us

Transitioning your corporate tax file to our team is completely seamless. We handle the administrative heavy lifting, moving your financial history securely over to our firm without disrupting your ongoing business operations.

Step 1

A Consultation

We’ll discuss your corporation, filing timeline, current records, and whether you need a year-end return, additional accounting work, or ongoing advice.

Step 2

Custom Onboarding

We’ll outline the work involved and provide a fee proposal before the engagement begins. This makes it clear which filings and services are included.

Step 3

Prepare, Review, and File

Our team prepares the agreed-upon work, reviews the return and key year-end items with you, and files once everything is ready. We’ll also flag matters worth addressing in the next tax year.

What We Need to Get Started

Whether this is your first year with Jensen CPA or you’re moving from another accountant, we’ll start by understanding your corporation and its current records. Useful starting documents typically include:
  • Your prior-year corporate tax return and financial statements, if available
  • Current-year bookkeeping records and bank reconciliations
  • You want regular insight into margins, costs, and performance
  • Details of major asset purchases or sales
  • Information about shareholder payments and other significant changes
We’ll confirm exactly what is needed after learning about your business. If you’re changing accountants, we can help coordinate the transfer of relevant prior-year information.

Many of our engagements involve businesses generating $1 million or more in annual revenue. Revenue alone doesn’t determine the right time to seek support; the complexity of your decisions and financial reporting matters too.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are corporate tax returns due in Alberta?

A corporation generally files its T2 return within six months of its tax year-end. A balance owing is generally due earlier—usually two months after year-end, or three months if the corporation meets the applicable conditions. We can help confirm the dates that apply to your corporation.

What is a T2 corporate tax return?

A T2 is a corporation’s income tax return. Most resident corporations must file one for each tax year, even if they do not owe tax. The return includes the applicable schedules and financial statement information.

Does every corporate tax return need a compilation engagement?

No. A corporation needs appropriate financial information for its T2 return, but a compilation engagement is a separate professional service. We’ll discuss whether one is appropriate for your business and include it in the engagement scope if needed.

Can you help with GST/HST filing?

Yes. We can assist corporate clients with GST/HST return preparation and filing. We’ll confirm the filing periods and work involved when we scope your engagement.

Do you work with corporations that already have an accountant?

Yes. If you’re considering a change, we can discuss your upcoming deadlines and help coordinate the transfer of relevant information from your previous accountant.

What does a corporate tax engagement include?

That depends on your corporation’s records and needs. A filing engagement may cover preparation and filing of the T2 return and its applicable schedules. Compilation engagements, GST/HST filings, bookkeeping, and ongoing planning can be included where appropriate and will be set out in your proposal.
